Conservatives Continue To Ignore Constitution

The Leadership Conference on Civil Rights plans to air a commercial attacking Janice Rogers Brown as a "radical judge" unworthy of confirmation to the appeals court. For some reason, cheap labor conservatives see this as racism. How nutty is that?

Are they saying that Blacks should agree with every other Black? Isn't that the kind of thinking they claimed to be against?

Of Course this is not an isolated incident. The usual suspects are in a tizzy over a Facebook group entitled "Every Time I See a Black Republican, a Piece of Me Dies a Little." 

My ex-wife (the smart one) got her Masters from Tulane (the school in question). To think it is some liberal oasis is a joke.

Haven't these people learned anything from the Dixie Chicks fiasco. They looked like idiots because they forgot that America is about letting people say what they want even if you don't agree with it.

Will someone please give these people a copy of the Constitution.

 

War: What Is It Good For? (Republicans Can't Make Up Their Minds)

Cheap labor republican Micheal King continues to be confused.

He seems to think that Senator Rangel's a hypocrite because he was against the war and now calls for a draft.

Here we have a great disconnect which Republicans can't seem to grasp. If we are really at war then we should be doing everything we can to win. That means a draft. It means the public making sacrifices.

If what we are facing is not a "threat against Democracy and Our Way Of Life", then not only should we not have a draft, we don't need a soldier in Iraq. It's not Rangel who is confused. It's the Republican party who are using our soldiers to benefit multinational corporations under the cover of "the fight against terror" that's the problem.

The End Of Civil Rights?

U.S. Commission on Civil Rights is closing offices around the country.

The commission will shutter the Denver office and another in Kansas City, Kan., in October, laying off six people.

The move will force anyone with a federal civil rights complaint in those districts to seek help in the commission's Chicago office. The Denver office covers Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Utah and Colorado, while the Kansas City office oversees complaints in Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Iowa, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Missouri.

Some say the office closings are a harbinger of the slow death of the civil rights agency, which, riven by partisan politics, long ago strayed from being the "conscience of the federal government," as President Dwight D. Eisenhower intended when he created it as part of the 1957 Civil Rights Act.

The commission has been plagued by political power struggles and by fighting among its Republican and Democratic members.

Cheap labor conservatives in Congress kept its budget at $9 million for most of the 12-year term of

liberal Chairwoman Mary Frances Berry, who left the commission in December. That is $3 million less than its budget during the Reagan administration. The new Staff director is Kenneth Marcus.

I always get kinda Tyler Durden-ish  whenever I think about the Supreme Court. Ever since the 2000 debacle trust in the judiciary  has skewed downward. The power they abused in that Presidential election has now come to bite them in the proverbial ass and all of us will suffer for it for years to come.

That's why I was kinda surprised to read an admitted  federal judicial starf***er's post about incoming law clerk for Justice Stephen G. Breyer, Danielle Gray. She seems like the kind of person the Justices and other young people need to be hanging around. Maybe the new over-achieving Black chick will be able to knock to sense into the heads of her soon to be power-broker colleagues. (And please do not confuse her with  Chantel Febus , a Janice Rogers Brown in training, clerking and trading lynch mob stories with Justice Clarence Thomas).
 

1. Danielle Gray (Harvard '03/Garland '03-'04)

Tidbits:

(a) after clerking for Big Pimpin' Feeder Judge Merrick Garland, Danielle Gray worked on the policy staff of Barack Obama's Senate campaign, then joined the Washington office of O'Melveny & Myers (her current place of employment);
(b) originally from Long Island, she went down south to Duke for college;
(c) not surprisingly, she is "an ardent Blue Devils fan," who "adores J.J. Redick and most of all Coach K";
(d) "she performed superbly in a 1L Ames [moot court] competition against two current members of the Elect, Michael Gottlieb and [Dorothy] Hien Tran (who were also outstanding, and who are now Danielle's good friends)";
(e) Danielle "came up with an incisive interpretation of Shaw v. Reno during a Law of Democracy class at Harvard Law School that was thereafter known as the 'Gray Thesis' (I'm not positive, but the Gray Thesis may have shown up on the exam)";
(f) she was one of the three primary authors of the Harvard BLSA (Black Law Students Association) amicus brief in Grutter v. Bollinger;
(g) she was voted "most likely to be a Supreme Court justice" by the HLS class of 2003 (the honor won by future Stevens clerk Sam Spital in 2004);
(h) she has "a keen sense of humor"; and
(i) she is "an all-around delightful person," "one of the most charming people you'll ever meet" -- "[i]f you don't like Danielle, you are per se a bad person!"

It's nice to see people like Ms. Gray having a chance to clerk despite the cheap-labor conservatives who have taken over the courts.

Black Folks And Everyday Low Prices

A lot of folks have problems with Wal-Mart. Local retailers. Unions. The list goes on.

But Wal-Mart has come up with a plan which is working. New stores are going up in poorer neighborhoods.

The pitch goes like this: Wal-mart is good for poor people of color because they get jobs and also get to buy cheap goods.

Of course executives don't mention the jobs come with notoriously low wages and that the company has cracked down on union organizing. But  Black cheap labor conservatives don't care.

Wal-Mart executives know that poor people of color are in no position to be picky about who brings what jobs to the community. Wal-Mart is the leading employer of Black and Latino workers.

But just how bad is Wal-Mart?

Wal-Mart has a health plan. But because few workers can afford it on the wages Wal-Mart pays, the company instead encourages its workers to apply for public assistance. So many of Wal-Mart employees are on welfare that some states want to tax them to offset some of their costs. 

Pitching proposals to poor communities who are desperate for jobs, private developers are able to exploit the failure of public policy to create jobs in these communities. New York City Coucilman Charles Barron had this to say in a recent Alternet article.

"There are plenty of other ways to create jobs," says Councilman Barron, who argues for increased investment in public infrastructure such as hospitals and schools to revitalize poor areas like his Brooklyn district. "Private developers," he continues, "manipulate the race question for their financial gain."

Like everyone else, I wanna save a few a few dollars. I shop at Wal-Mart. And I'm all for poor communities getting much needed jobs. But we need to distinguish between economic development and economic exploitation. And Wal-Mart smells a bit like explotation to me.

Black Conservatives Attack One Of Their Own

Even Black conservatives are upset with Mexican president Fox for his insulting comment about Blacks here in the U.S.

For those of you who avoid the major media for news (and I don't blame you) here's what he said.

"There is no doubt that Mexicans, filled with dignity, willingness and ability to work, are doing jobs that not even blacks want to do there in the United States.”

The always ludicrous LaShawn took the time to defend Fox and got the crap beaten out of her from Black conservatives with sense.

The comments were racist, and inaccurate, and she should at least be calling Fox out harsher for singling out black folks. Before illegal immigration, it was black folks who did these jobs and did them well. --Booker Rising

In answer to La Shawn, of course President Fox is a racist! Aside from the statement being the truth when not considered within its context, people from other countries feel much freer to make racist statements about perceived inferior groups than do Americans...--Baldilocks

Even my friend Micheal King thought the comment was racist and was even able to mention Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton in the post without putting them down.

Of course we hear nothing from prominent Black conservatives on the subject. Nice to see how they will defend Bush's Policies but not their own people...

How Blacks Are Fairing During the Bush Economic Recovery

While Black cheap labor republicans praise Bush"because "Minority home ownership in America is at an all time high"  They are noticably silent when it's noted that Black unemployment is rising .

The Economic Policy Institute has released a new report stating that black unemployment is rising during an economic recovery.

There are a lot of charts and statistics but let me break it down in small biteable chunks. Minority unemployment rates tend to worsen faster in a downturn and improve more quickly in an expansion, where as white rates tend to be more stable.

Surprisingly, in this recovery, the opposite pattern has prevailed thus far. The overall rate is down slightly, as is the white rate. But the unemployment rate for African Americans is up by 0.8 percentage points overall, driven by the 1.4 point increase for African American men. By the first quarter of 2005, the overall African American unemployment rate was 10.6%, while the overall rate--5.3%--was half that level.

So as expected, George Bush's economic policies are hurting Blacks the most.

 

Micheal King continues attacking Dyson

I have a dirty little secret. I read Micheal King's blog everyday.

I know I make fun of his picture and criticize everything he says, but I do find his blog interesting, which is more than I can say for most conservatives.

That being said, Mr. King continued to this week to bash Michael Eric Dyson. He said Mr. Dyson is basically destroying the idea of "personal responsibility in the black community."

Now I do not know much about Dyson. I haven't read his books. I haven't watched him on TV. But I do know cheap labor conservatives and what they mean when they say "personal responsibility".

Walter Williams gives advice to poor people

Famed economist Walter Williams joined the fray and posted some dumb suggestions on how not to be poor aimed at participants in the Millions More Movement on the new Huffington Post. Here's an excerpt:

First, graduate from high school. Second, get married before you have children, and stay married. Third, work at any kind of job, even one that starts out paying the minimum wage. And, finally, avoid engaging in criminal behavior. If you graduate from high school today with a B or C average, in most places in our country there's a low-cost or financially assisted post-high-school education program available to increase your skills.

What kind of cheap labor conservative crap is that?  Is he trying to be funny?

Hey, I'm not that excited about the Farrakhan movement, it kinda taste like a bunch of old leaders trying to relive their glory days. But it is positive and I can see no harm coming from it.

When Blacks who are respected make disparaging remarks against other Black people actually trying to help others it pisses me off. I am tempted to call him [this is his work number (703) 993-1148] and give him a piece of my mind...

Are Prince Fans Really Conservatives?

Booker Rising, the website of Black cheap labor conservatives, recently linked to a post by Casey Lartigue, Jr. ,which blasted Micheal Eric Dyson for being 15 minutes late to a book signing and sounding like Mike Tyson.

C'mon guys, you can do better than that.

If you're gonna find liberal bashing articles you may want to look beyond blogs written by Prince Music Club members. Are you sure that Casey is a conservative (check out those beads in the picture) or is he just pissed he hasn't been invited to any of the 3121 parties?
