George Bush's Africa Policy and Who's Not Paying Attention

I've been cruising the Black Republican websites and I see very few of them are talking about the meeting between Condoleezza Rice, "senior" White House officials and members of the black clergy on developing U.S policy in Africa.

Could it be they saw it for the sham it was?

The high-level session occurred the same day that the all-Democratic Congressional Black Caucus conducted a long-planned outreach meeting with 200 Black pastors from across the country seeking to solidify bonds between the Democrats and religious leaders. Could it be the State Department meeting was an effort to upstage the Black caucus?

Instead of dealing with the real problems facing Africa, like the genocidal wars and the AIDS epidemic, all they really focused on was care for orphans with AIDS. Noble but c'mon, it smells of an attempt to use the Black Churches to get more Black support but to really do nothing to help the continent long-term.

Student Claims Discrimination For Interracial Dating

 Aisha O’Gilvie is suing her high school for barring her from attending her own graduation. She thinks that her school’s reasoning is a little fishy, and believes that her problems began once she started to date interracially.

The school, through an archdiocese spokesman, says the student in question has a history of disciplinary problems. But the black student and her white boyfriend say the problems seemed to coincide with their budding romance.

Aisha O’Gilvie remains barred from Saturday’s graduation ceremonies at our Lady Of Lourdes high school in Poughkeepsie. The cheerleader and honor student has filed a racial discrimination complaint with the Dutchess County Human Rights Commission claiming her troubles are the result of her teenage romance with Nick Hoxie, a popular school athlete.

“It never happened before until me and Nick started dating. That’s when all this started happening,” says Aisha O’Gilvie.

Coalition of Black Pastors Rallying Behind Call for End of Filibuster

People wonder why I don't get get all misty-eyed when the Black church is discussed. Here's why:

Bishop Harry Jackson, president of the High Impact Leadership Coalition, said judges like Brown are needed to stop courts from overruling the people with decisions like those requiring the legalization of same-sex "marriage." Standing outside the Capitol, Jackson asked a question about those leading the filibuster: "Why are they afraid to put a black woman on the court?"

Jackson contends Democrats oppose Janice Rogers Brown because she will not find new constitutional rights that are not in the text. "The advocates for issues like same-sex marriage cannot find popular support to change the long-standing institutions of our land," he said. "Therefore they are using the back door in what I'm going to call 'legal sleight of hand' in order to get their way."

Jackson said America needs moral judges like Judge Brown and the other filibustered nominees on the courts -- not more judicial activists.

This Jackson cat, a supposed leader, knows nothing about politics.  So let's see, we eliminate the filibuster then 4 years from now you are screaming that the liberal congress is able to ram it's judges down America's collective throat. The man is ignorant for getting involved in this. And what's more ignorant is that he has a bunch of folks who will join him just because of his stature in the church.

The New Black (Understanding American Muslim Organizations)

This is not the best of times for American Muslims. 9/11. Korans being allegedly flushed down the toilet. A massive increase in defamation against Islam and Muslims in the United States, and the invasion and occupation of Iraq.

Because of all of this a bunch of organizations have popped up claiming to speak for Muslims. Hussein Ibish explains 3 of them and what their agendas really are.  

 

 

"first-ever Latina lesbian sheriff"

One-time migrant farm worker Lupe Valdez made history this week when she became the first woman and the first Latino elected

Dallas County sheriff, not to mention the first Democrat to win the post since the mid-1970s.

Oh, she also is openly gay. The Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund, a political-action committee that endorsed Valdez and trained her on answering questions related to her sexual orientation, hailed her as the "first-ever Latina lesbian sheriff."

The churches are already on it and the Sheriff's office "is in shock."

In other law news... Claims of racism tarnish a tight race for sheriff near Tallahassee.

African-American candidate Morris Young leads in the race for Gadsden County sheriff by 70 votes, but some of his white supporters still complain about harassment at the polls. They say people hassled them, and one said someone spray-painted racial slurs on his car.

update-After a six-hour machine recount, nonpartisan candidate Morris Young again won this year's race for Gadsden County sheriff, expanding his margin of victory to 115 votes.
